Description
Cuyamaca Open House: English and Math Corequisites in Action, Plus Accelerated ESL
As colleges have begun implementation of AB 705 this fall, many are still concerned with how this looks in the classroom. Cuyamaca College has been working on transforming remediation since fall 2016, using high school grades for placement and offering corequisite courses for students who need support in transfer-level English and math. In addition, ESL students can go from the "false beginner" level to completing transfer-level English in as few as three semesters through the BOOST accordion model and the classroom looks very different.
In all three disciplines, Cuyamaca has seen substantial increases in transfer-level completion of English and math and decreases in equity gaps, and faculty are remarking that students' in-class conversations are deeper than they've ever seen.
Come see what this looks like. This Open House will provide you with an opportunity to observe English, math, and ESL classes in action. In addition, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance from faculty who are in the classroom every day.
This Open House will include:
- Time to observe multiple corequisite courses in action
- Q & A time with:
- Department Chair
- Faculty teaching courses
